Many of the books about the battle for Bataan in early 1942 show a photo of a
group of GIs, complete with WWI-style helmets, sitting in the jungle and
listening to the news on a Sky-Buddy. The photo is extremely effective because:
(1) the GIs are very skinny from several months of half-rations; and (2) the
look on their faces shows their desperate desire for supplies and reinforcements
from the U.S.
