Perhaps these tubes were made of expensive materials but a Sylvania 5U4GB/GT had to meet the same electrical specs and you can buy a lot of Sylvania or other brands for that price.  My SX99 still has the original Halicrafters 5Y3 tube.

I notice inside the plastic wrapper is what looks to be an individual test report on this specfic tube.  In the late 50s and early 60s when I did radio and TV repair I avoided using GE tubes as their useful life was very short but they made up for that with an extremely high failure rate.  Perhaps GE/Genalex is celebrating the few good tubes they produced (LOL).
