There are a lot of them out there, but finding a good one can be a
challenge. For servicing old radios, you really should have a meter with a high input
impedance and an analog readout. Just try aligning a receiver with a digital
meter sometime. :-) However, there ARE digital meters that also have an
analog-like bar graph below the digital readout, and these seem to work quite
well, but they aren't cheap.

While a used meter is worth consideration, and you can find plenty, be
careful of the kit meters. At the least you will probably have to replace some old
parts and recalibrate it, but a lot can depend on who built it. You can end
up with someone elses poor workmanship to correct in addition to other work.
You are usually safe with an RCA or HIckock if you find a decent one. Make
sure the proper probes are with the meter.

Possibly worth considering for general purpose work are some of the VERY
CHEAP digital meters available from various places. For example:
_http://www.oselectronics.com_ (http://www.oselectronics.com)
has one for $9.95 which shows on the opening page. Or _http://www.mpja.com_
(http://www.mpja.com)
has one under "Test Equipment" for only $6.95.
