Yes, the BRAIDED old style fishing line works well, BUT the stuff I've found
that works best, AND DOES NOT LOSE IT'S DIAMETER from stretching or other
factors, is LEAD FILLED FLY LINE.  Yes, it really exists.  Most fly-fishing
line you want to float, but for some types of fish (and flies), you want it
to sink, and this stuff works great.  It's also easier to work with, as it's
not like trying to stick a rope up a cat's behind.
