Subject: [Hallicrafters] SX28 vs SX42 ?

I realise this is a very subjective thing, but which is the more
desirable receiver: the SX28 or the SX42?

I have both a SX-28 and a SX-42. I enjoy and listen more to the SX-28.

The appearance of the SX28 is perhaps more "classic" than the SX42,
but does it have as good performance?

Both have good performance but my SX-28 sounds a bit nicer and
seems just as sensitive. Also it has a more classic appearance and
is actually easier to understand and use.

From a collector's point of view: would a collection be more enhanced
by an SX28, or an SX42? (I suppose the correct answer is "both"!)

You are correct - both. Monitor prices and go for what you can
afford, but my recommendation is go for a good one, either original
or one that has been recapped by someone who cares.

But I'd be interested to hear opinions on the relative merits of
these two antiques :-)

Julian

Good luck.
