Duane,
I've seen no evidence that the rest of the world thinks badly of US Hams.
Where does this information come from?
The ARRL DX contests are W/VE vs. the rest of the world.  DX stations are 
calling CQ USA.  If we are so terrible, why is everyone calling us?

Anyone who listened to the recent 3Y0X Dx-pedition could hear "rotten 
operators" from all parts of the globe.

For many years I participated in an informal Sunday net on 20M.  We missed a 
few sessions a year because of contests and that was voluntary, why fight 
it.
