Move forward into the 80's and say that meaning contest are current and
future oriented!!! C'mon just giving a report
that is the same for all stations, even if you have to ask them to repeat 5
times as you can't copy them, interfering with existing qso's , not
listening to the frequency before calling, splatter all over the band! That
is forward thinking??? Anyone can win a contest all they have to do is spend
the most money and be a lousy lid operator. CQ magazine once published that
less
than 2% of ham operators list contesting as their first interest yet the
bands are full of junk when these self centered individuals get on to " play
their game". Contests use to be a "test" and were meaningful not just
advertisements for the magazines, those who won had their stations studied
to find out why, this is not the case today. Contests use to take up only a
portion of the band, the the half left for others not participating. Today
CQ magazine says " forget the band plan" just operate and contesters (
better known as congesters) complain that if " we had to be in just one
portion of the band we would interfere with each other" Da! Yeah thats what
the insignificant 2% of you do to the rest of us. Take contesting and do it
with your cell phones maybe you could work all cars on a major highway in
one day and win a great prize!!
