[Hallicrafters] Tube tester question.

Waldo,

I have two 6000 testers and one 6000A. The 6000A does not have a 4 pin
socket. The 6000 units have all the old sockets (4,5,6 &7).

You can use the old tube listings from the 6000 and make your own adapter.
Take a bad octal tube and break out all the glass and other material. Then
wire a 4 pin socket into pins 1 through 4 on the octal tube socket and glue
the 4 pin into the top of the octal. Presto - a 4 pin adapter.

You can do the same for 5, 6, and 7 pin sockets and test most anything. I
have and it works fine.

Be advised, that the red socket sub-chassis from the 6000 with the old
sockets shows up on the unmentionable place. They are not interchangeable
between the 6000 & 6000A! They have a different number of pins on the plug
and socket below the chassis. Twelve for the 6000 and thirteen for the
6000A as I remember.

If you should need old listings, I think have a listing on regular paper
that I can throw through a copier. You probably want the obsolete listing
if you don't have it to test your old tubes, which I can copy also.

Good luck and happy testing.

Cheers,

Gerry

Subject: [Hallicrafters] Tube tester question.

This is a related Hallicrafters question. My Hallicrafters DD-1 is
operating except for the last section - the audio output stage. I
would like to test the push-pull output tubes (2A3) which are 4-pin
glass triode tubes. My tube tester is a Hickok 6000A which does not
have a 4-pin plug-in - however there is a bung-plug in the upper left
corner where tubes are plugged into the tester. My question is, for
those who may have 6000A testers, does your tester have a 4-pin socket?
By the way, the DD-1 seems to be very sensitive on the broadcast
band which is the only band I've tested.
