Frank, I thought Halli Rs were all speakers (reproducers?) George I have a military moral receiver type "R-100". The "R-96" could be a military designation rather than a Hallicrafters model number. Kinda like URR-XXX etc.. The R-100 is interesting, but not a great radio. I suspect this one to be about the same. Mike N8AZC
