You're probably right; it may well have been a TED,
but this one covered the 2-meter range, I think
115-156 MHz.

Yes, the TDE is an LF/HF rig.  There is one undergoing
restoration aboard the USS North Carolina (BB-55)
Battleship Memorial in Wilmington, NC.  I must have
gotten my memories crossed.
