SIGHHHHhhhhhh........

I used to ride my bike down to H&H Electronics on Kishwaukee Street in Rockford
Illinois back in the mid 60's. Interestingly enough, it was located right
across the street from the house my Mom grew up in .

My Mom and Dad bought my Hallicrafters S-85 from H&H. I still remember seeing Hallicrafters
receivers there with the green plastic dials. In hindsight, I should have passed on the
junky S-85 and asked for one of the green dial Halli receivers. Now I realize those were
the real receivers while the S-85 wasn't.. I did like the S-85 look though. Like the
others' experiences,H&H had a wall of used HAM gear, most of the guys behind the counter were
hams, they had all the parts and tubes you could want.

I also remember the wonderful pleasure of buying my DOW KEY relay and
Johnson Speed X cw key there. Even remember the rack of QST magazines.
I seem to recall they gave out H&H printed QSL cards but I don't seem
to have one.

Yeah the walks down radio memory lane are sweet. Luckily I have enough radio
projects and radio interests (like my 1920s and 1930's stations) to keep me occupied so memory lane is just another
part of the fun, and not the only thing left.
