I vividly recall walking up "upper" Market Street in SFRAN, back in 1962.
The whole street was festooned with surplus electronics stores, and in one,
were walls, COVERED with ARC-5's, still in the SEALED anti-fungicidal
packaging. On the other wall, were ART-13's, also brand new in the sealed
packages, with all the accessories. Barrels of crystals, and complete
shipboard radar sets, including the mast mounted antennas. I belonged to
the ham radio club at the US Naval Schools Command - Treasure Island, CA
(K6NCG), and we'd go up there on Saturdays to "shop". Many projects came
from torn-apart surplus, and brand-spanking-new radios - where are they now?
Who knows? But, one thing's for sure - they are NOT in mint-condition.
