[Hallicrafters] Another Sucker is born

What a kick...we went many rounds on this guy on the R-390 reflector.

I'm glad he has a red background in all of his pictures. It's a red
flag and makes him easy to avoid. You don't even have to read the
description which is full of BS anyway.

I too, speak from experience as I bought a SX-28A that was severally
misrepresented by Martyn. Mine was even covered when not in use. That
line should have been a clue on a 60 year old radio... like he would
know!

It is partly my fault as when I looked at the pictures again after
receiving the radio, they really did tell a lot of the story. But I'm
lucky as the SX-28a does work great. I had to reset the S meter needle
in its pivots after the poor packing job, but it did work after that.
Additionally, the back speaker connections were broken and the radio had
actually come out of the case. It was a miracle it worked. He also
said it would be double boxed which it was not. I would not buy
anything from this guy unless I could drive to his place, test it, and
personally carry it home.

73,
Randy K6RCZ

Well, DITTO here....when I see his ads, I just cruise right on by. They
are
easy to spot because they are all "MINT _ BEST I'VE EVER SEEN _ JUST
REALIGNED BY ME _ FROM MY OWN PRIVATE COLLECTION, etc.... (sound
familiar?)

This guy uses lavish descriptions to maximize his sale prices. I also
found out the hard way. Any recourse? I don't buy anything from him.

Todd KA1KAQ:
I was surprised to hear that "NAME" and that I was not alone in my
dealing with him. Here is what happened to me. The red items are direct
from the auction page description.

Hallicrafters SX-28**Original**Excellent**Look**

Radio-mart:
Received the SX-28 and it did not "RECEIVE VERY WELL ON ALL BANDS AND IN

ALL MODES", it was DOA. Am trying to find out why. Also, it is not
completely ORIGINAL as you described. The S-meter is not a Hallicrafter
meter (was an RME meter), was not even wired up, and the meter did not
work when checked by itself. Wrong size and shape for the panel too. For

what I paid I expected all original and working.

This was his first reply:

Dear Bob
I am sorry to hear that your not completely satisfied with the receiver
I considered my listing to be accurate
The meter I never noticed was not connected??? or the wrong type??
The receiver certainly worked very well for me and can only imagine that

during transit a tube went soft? just a guess??
Regards
Martyn

This was his second reply:

Dear Bob:
Sorry about that but I stand by my description of the radio.
Martyn

This was a very expensive lesson learned. When I contacted eBay they
sided with him.
