Mike,

Can you get the slug with adjusting screw all the way out?  (some piston 
caps are closed on the end opposite the screw.)  If so, just break or file 
off the remaining part and saw a new slot. The Exacto folks have a nice 
little (5 inches long) saw that does the job nicely.  Get one at your hobby 
shop.
