David,

As stated earlier, and correctly so, the "S" designation did not have a 
crystal filter and the "SX" models did have a crystal filter. However, there 
were several times that Hallicrafters did depart from this designation, so I 
have been told, but I am not aware of any specific models that had a crystal 
filter with a "S" designation. For all intents and purposes it stands as 
stated.

This is also verified by Chuck Dachis in both his books: "Radios By 
Hallicrafters" volume #1 and #2.
