I've been having an intermittent receive sensitivity problem with my SX-130,
and last weekend I finally got around to doing some detective work. The
electrolytic's and some resistors were replaced a couple years ago, but this
problem started late last fall. I figured that since it was intermittent, the
problem would be a poor connection in the front end, but after some probing
with a diddle-stick, the problem was found to be a defective .01 disk cap (C27)
at T1.
It took a couple hours for the problem to show up, but once it started to
drop out, it didn't take much pressure on the cap to duplicate the problem.
Yup, I guess disk caps can go bad. B+ to the plate of the mixer stayed about
the same, so I'm going to assume the cap was opening up.
Had this problem not been intermittent, one could have thought that this
receiver was just a little on the deaf side. Yes, some signals would push the
S-meter to 10 over S-9, but with a good cap these same international
broadcasters would push the meter to 60 over.
