While changing out the volume pot, I decided to look a close look at the  BFO 
circuit.  I ran the BFO signal to the 2 IF amp, and it made an  improvement, 
but physically, the IF tube is too far away from the BFO.  I  then checked the 
resistors in the BFO circuit and found one 47 K around 56  K, and a 15 K up 
around 24 K.  I replaced these two in addition to  rerouting the injection wire 
back to, but more directly to the detector plate as  shown on the schematic.  
I also added a couple extra turns of wire to form  the gimmick capacitor.  
The BFO injection is now what I would expect, and  sideband reception is now 
possible.  40 CW was hot last night.
