[Hallicrafters] A NEAR MINT SX-28!

I agree with Lloyd re the color of the side braces. I
saw the same thing in my SX-28, which I believe may be
September to October 1941 production. The side braces
had never been out of this one either, so far as I
could tell; and they were blue-gray in the protected
surfaces.

My SX-25 and its companion PM-23 which I think is
original to it both cleaned up to a nice blue-gray
finish (I used Scrubbing Bubbles, works like magic but
be real careful over lettering). They were a really
vile gray-green when I first got them.

This "mint" SX-28 has a noticeably lighter amber cast
to the dials than 99% of the Halli dials of that
vintage that I have seen, or so they appear to me.

I asked the seller of the SX-28 for the name of the
original owner, got it, and checked a published list
of those killed on Wake Island as well as POWs who
died in capitvity or were executed by the Japanese.
His name does not appear. Could be an omission but
who knows? Might have been that he died in a
different place, too.
