Re. the SX-25 - Most likely, the RCA (called "phono jack" in the ancient
daze) jack you're looking at was for a phonograph, as nobody had combination
phonographs, and many of the "turntables" simply came with a line cord and a
phono cord, for plugging into the receiver/radio. I'm betting the switch
selects either the audio from the receiver OR from the phono, as most of the
tube-type output stages REALLY SOUNDED GOOD.

My own 1939 Stromberg-Carlson 410-T (first radio I ever heard SW on) has a
phono jack, and I recall my Grandparents putting the HEAVY "turntable" on
top of the radio to play "There's a Tree in the Meadow" by Margaret Whiting,
when I was a little kid in 1949.
