[Hallicrafters] HT 44 Question

Hi all I have a question about an HT 44.  I just received it 
recently and have completed a touch up alignment and it 
works great.

My question is about the Cal Reset knob.  When the red dot 
is up, which I assume is supposed to be the neutral 
position, the little air variable is full meshed.  That 
means one can not vary the vfo frequency up and down, only 
down.  Thinking the knob had been installed incorrectly, I 
removed it to find the set screw had left a mark on the 
shaft in only one place.  That is where it is.

Was this installed and aligned incorrectly at the factory? 
Should the calibrate variable be half meshed so one can 
calibrate the vfo up and down frequency.
