I think the HT-37 (properly operating) sounds better than the HT-32
series. I own an HT-32B and don't own an HT-37. I'm basing my opinion on
what I've heard, not what I own. Generally speaking, I think phasing SSB
sounds more natural than filter SSB in most boat anchors.
The power transformer in both the 37 and 32 series were prone to go bad.
I've heard several rigs on the air being powered by external Heath HP-23
power supplies for this reason. If the transformer is still good in that
one, I would recommend solid-stating the power supply and disconnecting
the 5V filament leads from the rectifier sockets. Many other good tips
on the HT-37 if you search the archives.

Subject: [Hallicrafters] Hallicrafters HT-37
Hello,
I stumbled onto one that is very clean, looks great. Have not found a
manual or put power to it yet.
Does anyone have any experience with this xmitter? Does it use phasing
or filters to generate SSB? I have heard horror stories about phasing
methods to generate SSB. What I'm looking for is a transmitter to pair
up with my R-391 receiver, for a vintage AM/CW station. The HT-37 does
not have AM, but has DSB, which will work, but how well for AM?
Are there any unusual maintenance problems?
Is this xmitter worth an extensive restoration and is the signal quality
when up to factory specs worth the effort?
Thank you in advance for any help.
Best,
DW Holtman
