It was probably bond paper.

Don't use any paper anyway....use a burnishing tool
Very small bits of paper will snag in between the contacts and actually
insulate them.

A new dollar bill works fairly well for burnishing relays and such.
Any eraser works well on board type contacts and other large open 
surfaces, as long as you don't rub to hard,
Many years ago I had some paperlike burnishing strips that were made for

the purpose, not crocus paper, something similar. May still be
available.
