[Hallicrafters] rag chewing

just was sitting here leisurely ease dropping on a pleasant 4 way rag 
chew on 79 phone on the S38a, lovely experience. Did the best I could of 
aligning it without anything but another radio to help me, which 
sparkplugs ideas about a cheap and dirty but practical and reliable 
signal generator for the bench for critical frequencies. Also causes me 
to fuss a bit about engineers who design receivers with inductors whicih 
have no inductance control for refining the BOTTOM of the band for 
accuracy. Hmmm, were slug tuned inductors out in '47-'48, or was air 
core inductance still DE REGUIER?
