The SX-24 was produced from 1939 till 1943. It even
carried a JAN nomenclature in military service. I
think that was R-203/U or maybe R-208/U. Check the
online Military Commo Equipment List.

Cars in the 1940s (and continuing through some time in
the mid 50s) used SIX volt electrical systems, not 12.

Yes, it is a general coverage receiver, 540 KHz
through 43 MHz in four bands. The bandspread is
calibrated for 80-40-20-10 meter ham bands (no 15
meters till well after WW2).

The SX-24 is probably the design-antecedent of the
SX-99 and SX-110, as the circuitry is very similar
except for the use of more modern tubes in the later
receivers. All three have one RF stage, 2 IF stages
at 455 KHz, crystal filter and single ended audio.
Halli was good at taking a basically sound design and
"stretching" it, in some cases merely by reboxing the
radio (SX-99 and 110 are a standout example; they are
identical circuitwise).
