[Hallicrafters] go go go

Although we prefer to publish learned presentations on esoteric and
highly technical matters like paint colors and exchange personal
greetings celebrating the warm camaraderie of the amateur radio
community ("...your one brain cell is unlikely to be damaged..."), we
occasionally entertain discussions of SX-28 receivers.

Although I don't own one, I'd like to simply because of its looks. I've
unknowingly wanted one ever since I was a kid and spotted a photo of a
portion of its front panel accompanying a construction article on a
Q-Multiplier or some such accessory in an early '60's ARRL Handbook.
For years I wondered what radio sported that nifty face. Since the photo
was in the Handbook I figured the set was a really nice homebrew job and
searched in vain for the article describing it. It wasn't until I got
into restoring boatanchors a few years ago that I learned the true
identity of the handsome beast.

Do you subscribe to Electric Radio? The SX-28 has been the subject of
several articles in that fine little magazine and back issues are
available (though searchable index for them seems to be down at the moment).

Phil Nelson has a nice SX-28 restoration article posted on his website
at http://antiqueradio.org/halli12.htm , too.

Have fun and 73,

Craig
