Yes they are and yes you should according to most folks on this site.  As a
matter of fact, someone posted here a while back that there is a website
that will buy the black beauties for reselling!

Although, I have yet to replace a single black beauty in any of my
Hallicrafters radios or accessories and I have about 50 separate items using
them.

Go figure.  Flame on, tell me I'm asking for trouble.
