You guys ready for this. With all this discussion about the Kwikette's and
the replacement of components in gear, and the bemoaning of them being no
longer available, I suddenly had a Nirvana.
We still have Kwikette's but in a slightly different form. I just went in
the basement to my radio restoration area, and took one of these "thingies"
and tried it. It works beautifully. Needs a little more heat, but takes
solder naturally, is tubular, has a midpoint stop or indentation so you can
place a lead stub in one end and put the new lead in the other end. Add
heat and solder and walla instant new and tough connection.
You want to know what it is? It is a 18-22 gauge un-insulated butt splice
available even at Radio Shack! Go out and get a few. They work great.
I'm so happy with myself now. Thanks guys for the discussion.
