Terry,
For old capacitor illustrations, look for -- old radio books.  Examples 
would be ARRL Handbooks from the '40s and '50's or older versions of 
Orr's "Radio Handbook".  These will have physical descriptions of the 
different types of capacitors and guides on how to read the several dot 
codes patterns.
Lightbulb grease can be found at Pep Boys next to the Marvel Mystery 
Oil.  It's great stuff - let's the light slip throught the glass easier 
so the bulb runs on only half the power!
