Well, having stirred the pot on SX-28 screws, another chapter.

I stopped at my local Menards store (that's a home depot competitor in =
these
parts) and they have black socket head cap screws with knurling of sorts =
on
the outside of the head like my 28 had in many holes fastening the =
faceplate
when I got it (except the new ones have the correct coarse thread =
instead of
fine). This is the right size for the middle two holes on each side and =
the
top two (10-24 X 3/4 coarse thread - part number 85014 in their "gold =
screw
bins" where things cost $.39 per screw ala gold). These critters get
tightened with a 5/32 hex wrench. However I need to stop again because
either the top and bottom screw hole on each side is reamed out or
originally had bigger screws (these are the holes with the cutout to the
side.

Menards has the same screws in 12-24 and I plan to pick up some and use =
them
until I can find the correct ones.

No black washers though. But, carefully tightening them seems to work
without wrecking paint.

So, thanks for all the comments, I think I have a good temporary =
solution
until the real McCoy shows up.

Cheers from Minnesota,

Gerry
