Just a little more info:

The two diodes used require slightly different connections at the tip end. The
"updated" (newer one) had spplied with it a different spring connector types of
thingey.  Some little connection device that made it work right in the probe
meant for the older (and presumagly longet) diode.

Do look into this but do not let it keep you from acquiring a diode of the
different sort if you can find one.
