I would also agree that I have never had a problem with switch swelling due
to cleaners and I repaired an SX-42 whose switch sections were completely
soaked with it. This unit had a cold solder joint in the oscillator deck of
the switch that the previous owner tried to repair with tuner cleaner
instead of finding the real problem. Apparently when a little cleaner
didn't cure the intermittent he decided to try a LOT of cleaner. After
removing much of the excess (using a degreaser) and repairing the original
problem the SX-42 worked except for the oscillator being dead on the high
end of the FM broadcast range. So much cleaner had been used that he also
soaked the oscillator coils so after a second series of cleaning and
degreasing (and lubricating the shaft bushing and ball detent) the 42 now
works as it should. The other problem to watch out for (and I am surprised
this SX-42 didn't have it) is lowering the breakdown voltage between points
on the wafer due to the mixture of dust and debris caught in the "cleaner".
I would suggest always using a soft brush and compressed air to get rid of
any contamination you can BEFORE using any type of liquid cleaner.
