I am not a fan of the grommet and tie wrap method. The problem is that
it is difficult to secure the tie wrap enough to prevent slippage, plus
there is nothing to prevent cable rotation. In those situations I
prefer to use hot glue liberally on the inside of the chassis. It
secures the cord much better and is easy to remove. Just grab the hot
glue with pliers and twist and it cracks right off.
I have not actually done this to radios much but find it an effective
technique in my job where I take care of electronics for astronomers.
Sooner or later some astronomer will have any given piece of gear
dangling from the telescope by the power cord. Count on it.
