I would point out that the HT-32 does not shift carrier frequency for lower
or upper sideband. The carrier frequency is 4.95 MHz and the output of the
crystal filter is a 4.95 MHz upper sideband signal. Sideband selection is
done by switching an additional oscillator at either 4.05 or 13.95 MHz to
get either lower or upper sideband. This sideband switching oscillator
output is mixed with the 4.95 MHz signal to get the 9 MHz single sideband
output from the SS generator. The 4.05 MHz frequency get your upper
sideband and the 13.95 MHz frequency gets the lower sideband.

Subject: Re: [Hallicrafters] Re: HT-32 audio
This isn't my transmitter, honest. I'm trying to encourage the owner
to work on it a bit so when I'm talking to him through my CE 100V, he's
talking to me through his HT-32 not his ICOM. He's about given up on
it, concluding the filter makes good audio impossible.
Does the HT-32 have the usual arrangement of one filter with a shift of
the carrier oscillator above or below to select LSB or USB? Some
BA's like the T4XC have two filters.
The bandwidth is specified as 650 - 3000 Hz at -3 dB. It will be
somewhat wider (how much?) at -6 dB, the figure we tend to use these
days when talking about bandwidth. This ought to be wide enough for
better than communications grade audio. Are there a well known set of
tricks for the HT-32 for getting the most out of it as there are for
say the Johnson Valiant? Changing the first audio grid resistor,
increasing this cap, taking out that cap, that sort of thing?
Thanks,
Jon
