The lack of mid and low bass response is probably due to his voice frequency
speaking range and/or the frequency response of the microphone being used. The
mike may not have the original cartridge in it and depending on what it is could
affect he frequency response.
It is also important, if not essential, to use people who have a good ear, know
the persons voice and can give accurate reports as to how it sounds. Way too
many times a listener colorizes the quality by judging it against what they
prefer, which results in a biased evaluation.
Find several who are dependable and use these people each time. When you add
variables, you add unpredictability.

I forwarded your suggestions to my anonymous HT-32 owner friend and
they had the desired effect. I just talked with him on the air, he
using the HT-32 & HT-33. With the audio gain down, the audio was
distortion free but had no low end at all. He's using an EV 664. Now
Gary, WA9MZU, I mean anonymous is inspired to work on the HT-32.
Thanks,
Jon
