I've been forwarding them since I started getting them.  I always get a
response indicating they were indeed spoofs.

Are you forwarding with complete headers?

Absolutely!!!!

Assume everything is spam or spoof.
If you REALLY want to know, right click on the URL (web address), COPY,
then paste it to either a text editor or your browser (WITHOUT going to
the page).  You'll notice the address that shows up isn't the address
that you saw on the email.

You can also learn how to check the internet headers of messages to find
out where they really came from.  There is software that will help with
this (search for Sam Spade)

These miscreants are using what's called social engineering.  We can
render them impotent by watching what we're doing and remembering that
important sites don't send out email like this.  Ever.  They're also
usually full of misspellings.
