As I was trying to check into the net today, contest QRM got me, I was
working on a SX-28. Here is some advise. On the line side of the AC plug,
there is a bypass cap, .01 at 600V. Some of these caps were mica. I know, micas
don't fail very often.........BUT, while it was just sitting there, no power
turned on, BOOM.....this darn cap blew the side out of it. I couldn't
believe it. A closer check showed that it had been arcing for awhile. I
changed it and also the other bypass cap on the AC line. This could of
caused a fire and I STRONGLY suggest that anyone with a working SX-28/A or
anything in that time era, check there schematics for any bypass caps on the
line side of the on/off switch. An ounce of prevention..........
