Bill,
Wrong! This was originally an excellent series on NBC. It did not last one full
season because it cost so much to produce that NBC decided to drop it. NBC has
done this way too many times and canned some of the most popular shows ever,
including Star Trek, Buck Rogers In The 25Th Century etc.
The mission was to 'find' the missing, and possibly just a myth, thirteenth
tribe, on a shining planet called Earth. This is where Loren Greene, Adama, was
leading the fleet.
What the Sci Fi channel has come up with is nothing like the original. The two
young heros, Apollo and Starbuck, both males. Now Starbuck is a girl. Another
hero, Boomer, was a black man. Now he is a female! You can not make the
wholesale changes the writers of the new version did and make it work. The shows
have the same title, but that is just about where the similarities end. If you
watch the original and then this watered down version the differences are
striking. Absolutely nobody I have talked to who saw the original cares for the
new version.

Battle Star Gallactica, a fictitious series about the last remaining
human escaping the Cylon machines which have exterminated all the
human inhabitants of earth. The series is about these remaining
humans in very large spaceships trying to outwit the Cylon's in an
attempt to find a new world to rebuild the human race. It is a
series on the SciFi Channel. I am referring to the current episode which
started this Friday the 5th, that I believe will run all this week until a
new episode next Friday.
Last night, watching the series mentioned above, a scene in which the ships
doctor is in his laboratory, I momentarily spotted what I thought was an
SX-17 sitting on the shelf behind the good doctor. No way. Couldn't have
been an SX-17. Anyway, now aware of what I thought I saw, I watched more
closely and in the very next frame or scene, there it was clearly, a very
good view of an SX-17 or 16 sitting on a shelf behind and above the right
shoulder of the doctor looking like a piece of lab equipment.
The round silver dial, the "S" meter and bandspread were all there.
Later in the show, another view of the radio confirming what I was
seeing an actual SX-17 or 16 on the shelf.
Bottom line, its good to see a Hallicrafters rig is still in
existence many centuries into the future and being used as something even as
a prop in a series. If there are any other SciFi fans, and fans of Battle
Star Galactica, I would like someone else to confirm what I saw. I feel
certain it is an actual SX-17.
