Hi Joe,
    You can see the answer to all those questions on my website:

and you'll see ths p.s. diode mods, and at the bottom, the PTT stuff.
Both easy to do, and the diode one, incl. disconnecting the filament
windings, will hopefully make your pwr xfmr last as long as you'll need
it.
