Joe:

I own a very nice SR-400A. It's a plasure to use,
very stable and it has two useful features that
Collins didn't include in their xcvrs: RIT and a notch
filter. Im my opinion, the SR-400 or 400A is worth
looking for. As for the finals, the 400A uses 6KD6
tubes. They're not too hard to find, but they tend to
be a bit pricey. On the positive side, you don't need
a matched pair in the '400A, so you can buy one or two
as you find them instead of paying a premium for a
set; just try to keep the same brand. The non-A
version used a different final tube, I'm not sure
which. As I recall, the non-A had slightly lower
output power, IMO not enough to worry about. Good
luck.
