Hi Harry & Ron,
I'll try to hit both of your questions in one note.
The Krylon "semi flat" is flatter than the Rustoleum V7777, and maybe
just because of the reflectance, it seems a little "lighter" black. They
are not the same. I think the speakers were very close to the semi flat,
and the HT-32/SX-101 series (and Drake twins & TR-3/4's) were very close
to the V7777, which I've used on them for yrs. I think the S-40, and
maybe the SX-71 & S-73, were closer to the semi flat. I used semi flat on
an S-73 last yr. and thought the R-44 was grey/silver, but only from the
pic in Dachis, I haven't seen one.
On the R-46, the "grille" isn't removable, is a stamped raised part of
the front, and that makes it hard to silkscreen close to it. To paint it
silver/gray I guess you'll have to mask it off with the "no-line" tape,
and spray or maybe use a small brush.
Ron had asked about the skirt for the SX-101 main tuning knob, there
is another source for the skirt other than Mike Langston, but I'm not sure
now who. I have one, could probably look back in the checkbook to find
it. I also have thought, from the -60's, that the SX-101 is one of the
prettiest, and wanted one for a long time before I got my first in abt
1996. Have had several since then, now have a nice SX-101A.
