Hey Gang,

Thanks for the "accidental" info. I need a couple of 6L6's - one for the SX-16 and the other for my restored Heathkit AT-1, so I'm glad to hear of further subbing-adventures in glowing bottles. On the 6146 (FADF) thing - yes, they're out there. At one time, I used to fix electronic stuff for my buddy Ed (WAØGWN SK), who had a dental equipment repair biz. There's an ultrasonic tooth cleaner called a Cavitron, which is a HF audio oscillator (sounds ominous, doesn't it?). The old ones used a 6146, and some had the 6146W. One bad one I pulled out, was indeed marked... FADF.

I've also run into wierdly-marked 6146B's and W's in Simplex master-clock systems. I was the mountain tech-rep for them back in 85-87, here in the Colo. mtns. The output-unit is basically a carrier-current xmtr, which corrects all the clocks by means of an audio tone, put over the 117vac lines. They use a pair, and made for a handy source of spare finals for my Kenwood TS-520S.
