Joe's also a helluva nice guy in person too.

On the 6V6 tube situation, I think the 5881 is more of a sub for a 6L6 but I
might be wrong.    The 7027 is another one that comes to mind.  Weren't they
used as 6L6 replacements for the modulators in the Ranger II?

It's mind boggling to hear the output specs on the modern SS guitar
amps..... 600 Watts, 1000 Watts and up.   My main amp in the 60's was a dual
12" Fender Bassman which, if I remember correctly, ran a pair of 6L6's at
maybe 20 - 25 Watts out.   That was quite loud enough to destroy my hearing
above 13 kHz!
