One other thing John, how come none of these stations ever seem to have call
signs?

Well, it may not be military, but I used to and still do love the old serials
and science "friction" movies where they would plug a mic into the headset
jack on an SX-42 or similar receiver and proceed to work "the Supreme Ruler...On
Mars!" Perfect copy, too. Wow!
There was one movie, I can't recall the title, the Send/Receive switch on an
SX-28 got knocked into the Send position during a fight and alerted the good
guys to send help. They did a good closeup shot of the switch in send position
several times during the battle and cut to the good guys on the receive end
discussing how to help. There were switches marked Send/Receive on many
Hallicrafters models including the SX-15, 16, 24 and 25 among others.
Did anyone notice the SX-43 and R-44 speaker in "No Time For Sergeants?"
They actually used it as a prop to listen to band music. Boy, I wish these
old boatanchors would warm up as fast in the shack as they did on celluloid!

John, W4AWM
