John,

I have cleaned every band switch in every Hallicrafters, Kenwood, KDK etc. I
ever owned, and currently own with De-Oxit and never had that problem. That
includes receivers and well as transmitters (about 30 of them total). Your
assertion is very scary and I wonder if you can verify it? Has it happened
to you or is this something you heard about?

Be very careful when cleaning the band switch. Use a Q-Tip or head cleaner
and try not to let the cleaner get on the wafer itself, only the contacts.
Some cleaners, De-Oxit in particular, may cause the wafers to swell and they
will
never revert to normal. Needless to say, you are really in trouble if that
happens. Never use a spray cleaner on any band switch unless it is ceramic.

John, W4AWM
