Either size should work fine, Bill. I used carpet thread on one
All-American 5 set a few years ago since I didn't have a local source of
official dial cord and couldn't locate my spare cord.  I've also used
fishing supply braided leader line in the past as it was available at
K-Mart in short lengths.

 Thanks for the advice.  I searched for dial cord and found a place that
 sells the original black no stretch nylon cord.  They are offering the
 cord in either .030" diam or .040" diam.  Do you happen to know what
 diameter is the correct size to use?  Or maybe size doesn't matter
here.
