[Hallicrafters] HELP - The coil slug is stuck!

The slug is probably cracked already. If so, I would
take a metal Allen wrench that just "fits" the slug
and rock it slightly from side to side while inserted
in the core. This will usually cause the core to
fracture in several places. Then take a long needle
(or somethig very pointed) and put it on top of the
slug. Push this object to the center of the coil and
eventually the first piece of the slug will fall out
the bottom. When this happens, the next piece of the
core will be easier to get out. After 2 or 3 pieces
are out the rest of the core should just "fall out".
Another method is to stick a hot soldering iron down
the coil, putting the tip inside of the core. If the
core is not broken, this will usually loosen it up
enough to get it out in a hurry.
Other people will have their "favorite" method of
extracting broken slugs.

I'd really appreciate any experience-based
(preferably successful, :>) suggestions as to how to
"unstick" a iron slug that is inside one of the rf
alignment slug-tuned coils of my HT-32A. During
alignment, I was able to initially move it a half turn
or so and then it froze up. I'm afraid that if I force
it, the slug will crack. What do ya use to "lubricate"
the slug exterior (or its cardboard tube) that won't
swell it or turn it to mush?fters mailing list
