[Hallicrafters] SX101A Problem

I think one of the first things I'd look at is the tuning slug for the USB
conversion crystal, since the USB is the only mode affected, (as evidenced
by the LSB working OK). The tuning of this slug is rather critical, but is
easily checked with a high impedence voltmeter. I don't have the schematic
here now, but I found this problem in my SX101 MkIII several years ago, and
retuned it according to the alignment procedure in the manuel. You
shouldn't have to do the complete realignment if the receiver was OK before,
and if the other functions are working OK.

Hi Franklin,
Perhaps the ferrite slug has broken and slidden down to the bottom of the
coil former.
This is what happened to my SX-101.
Try turning the set upside down (this will cause the slug to slide back) and
see if there is a change in performance, if so, it' most likely a broken
ferrite slug.
If you are careful, you can either replace the slug with one of the same or
"super glue" it back together
Regards
Peter
