[Hallicrafters] SX-17

Jim,

It depends and I know you didn't want to hear that. I had an SX-17 about 30
years ago and am not sure where it went since I no longer have it. As I got
older I had a yearning to return to the old ways and I searched for an SX-17
(My first receiver), last year and found one on one of the internet sites.

I paid $ 1,100.00 for it. Now that may seem like a lot of money (and it
is), but it was something I very badly wanted and apparently others also as
the bidding went that high. The receiver was in excellent condition, (even
had the original paper tags) required no maintenance and no alignment.
Basically plug and play. The cosmetic appearance was outstanding, not a
hint of scratches, dents or dings anywhere. I eventually found the matching
speaker an R-8T which I restored and now have a beautiful SX-17 with
matching speaker.

This receiver was the exception and not the rule. I would say that a good
looking SX-17 will and has been going for about $ 300 - $ 500. Beat up ones
have been going for about $ 175.00.

So, as you can see, if you want something badly enough, you'll pay for it.

Anyone have a ideal what a very nice SX-17, might be worth? Good working
order and complete.

Thanks, Jim K7OET
