Has anyone ever seen a military-version or government-
version SX-28 with a nomenclature ID tag bolted or
riveted to the front panel?
I'm restoring an SX-28 and purchased a panel in much
nicer shape than the one that came on my receiver.
This panel has four small holes in a symmetrical
rectangular pattern, below the main dial bezel, that
look like they were used to mount such a tag. The tag
would cover the "Super Skyrider Model SX-28" logo.
I've never seen such a plate or tag; even the photos
in the AN/GRR-2 manual don't show one. One person's
opinion is that when a lot of these radios were
released through MARS channels, the military removed
the plates; but I have seen plenty of other MARS gear
that still had all its tags. And surely, not all
these radios were released through MARS.
It is possible that radios used by the Army, Navy, and
other government agencies used different tags.
If anyone has one of these plates or tags, I'd like to
hear from you. I'd like to find one.
By the way, what is the correct, complete nomenclature
for the military SX-28? Yes, it's an AN/GRR-2, but
there should be an "R-" number, so the full ID would
be "R-???/GRR-2."
