[Hallicrafters] Hallicrafters Font, screens, etc.

Hi Folks,
Well, the discussion last week didn't seem to resolve anything. I've
proceded here, and now have a local graphics/screening co. working on a
screen for the R-42. Vinyl lettering is out unless somebody can cut them
by laser, and then get the little pieces cleared. Then just try to stick
them on- not me. I will probably have him include some other lettering,
and I'll work out registering the frame on other stuff. It looks like
I'll be able to do my 3 R-42's in a cupla wks. Maybe the costs will not
be too bad over 3 units, and maybe I can use the screen in the future. I
haven't dis-assembled a speaker yet, but suspect the front panel is welded
on, which makes shipping a hassle if somebody wants me to do one for them,
but we'll see, it's a possibility.
That brings up the next question:
What's the best paint for the cabinets? At the recommendation of
Frank, W4FRL, I used Krylon Semi Flat Black #1613 to do a cabinet for an
S-76 a few mo.s ago. It seemed a bit too "black" for the R-42, and maybe
for the S-76, but who knows just what they looked like umpteen yrs ago.
Maybe St. James Grey is better, but maybe too grey? I guess I could get
Lowes to mix me up something & try it, could always add some white to make
it grayer. Their flatness is abt right I think.
    Open for suggestions.

Al, W8UT
